Due to the exceptional volume of orders for 415V LVAC and 11kV HVAC switchboards, Power Systems has opened a new assembly facility in Hillington, Glasgow.

The increased demand is due to the London Underground works on package 1B of the Sub Surface Lines Upgrade, which are now in full production, and new orders for panel build works for various internal and external customers.

Operations manager Colin Robertson said,” We’ve acquired Unit 43 in Carlyle Avenue, which is adjacent to the Huntly Road manufacturing facility. It is ideal being just 20 metres away from our main factory gates and will accommodate our increased manufacturing needs with a new assembly Unit for switchboards.”

The Unit has been fitted out to cater for Power Systems’ range of 11kV switchboards which are being manufactured over a two year programme for London Underground and will allow the Huntly Road facilities to specialize in LV and distribution products.

One such contract is with BBES Projects Unit for Hatfield tunnel where Power Systems is manufacturing four large LV switchboards which are to be installed on site this later this year. The division has been able to offer a cost-effective solution locally to the joint venture, bringing added value to the overall contract.

Demand for LVAC switchboards for clients such as Scottish Power, Enterprise and Balfour Beatty has also increased and the premises at Huntly Road are buzzing to the sound of machinery and plant as fitters work on the precision switchgear arrangements.

Colin continues: “We are certainly on track to meet our customers’ demands, and despite being busy, still have capacity for any other requirements that may come up so we welcome any enquiries for switchgear or services.”

The extra space will allow for work to start on manufacturing containerized substation modules for the Thameslink contract without affecting internal capacity for panel building.
