Newcastle office has just been awarded a £1m contract by Mansell to provide mechanical and electrical services for a new state-of-the-art community facility for the London Borough of Sutton.
The building, known as Sutton Life Centre, will comprise a library, youth centre, sports facilities and a coffee shop, all replacing or improving existing services in the area.
Balfour Beatty Engineering Services will install lighting, power, a building management system, ventilation, air conditioning, heating and domestic pipe-work and drainage for the hi-tech building which will incorporate many environmentally-friendly systems. The project includes installation of a rainwater harvesting system, a biomass boiler, and PIR systems for lighting and toilet flushing. Earth tubes will also be provided which will give free heating in winter and free cooling in summer.
A specialist learning zone will be provided for children from across London and the south east and it is intended that fees generated from this will fund running costs of the building.
Work starts in October 2009 and is scheduled for completion in May 2010.
