Balfour Beatty Engineering Services has been appointed by Kier Construction to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing services for a new academy in Carlisle.
The Newcastle office starts in the New Year on a £5m contract to provide the design and installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing services for a new state-of-the-art academy which will be at the heart of the regeneration of Carlisle and will accommodate around 1,500 students.
The aim of the project is to deliver an innovative learning environment that will inspire both students and teachers, raising standards of achievement and transforming educational results for all learners.
The academy will specialise in sport and science and there will be a wide range of learning environments including large halls, workshops, flexible teaching spaces and small seminar rooms.
The academy will have a dramatic and bright entrance that will lead into the atrium which will be an exciting multi-functional space at the heart of the academy.
The ultimate client for the project, which is due for completion in March 2011, is Cumbria City Council.
