Balfour Beatty Engineering Services has won a contract to provide mechanical and electrical services for a new 36-cell operational command unit in Southampton.
The £6.3m contract was procured by Hampshire Police Authority through a framework agreement with main contractor Kier Brazier. The design stage has recently been completed and as a specialist contractor Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) used its expertise in value engineering to ensure cost certainty for the client. A radical rethink has resulted in the integration of Balfour Beatty Engineering Services’ Modular Systems + product range into the design which will offer more efficiency and is in line with best practice.
The overall project value is £29m and will allow Hampshire Police Authority to centralise its business and replace its previous premises with more modern and flexible accommodation. A six-storey tower block with around 6000 sq m of office accommodation will be provided along with an upper ground level for a 36-cell podium custodial suite and offices, and a lower-ground level for storage and ancillary services.
Installation work is currently being carried out and will run for one year.
