
Projects division has been awarded a £1.3m contract to provide the design, procurement, installation and commissioning services to the electrical overlay contract at Calder Hall nuclear power station.
The contract scope, awarded by Sellafield Limited, is to reinforce the existing HV and LV electrical distribution systems at Calder Hall by providing a modern, fit for purpose infrastructure system to facilitate ongoing care and maintenance operations, reactor activities and support the general decommissioning of the site.
Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) will be responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of four 11kV/ 400V package substations, four feeder pillars, eight main distribution units, all HV/ LV infrastructure cabling and associated earthing systems. BBES is also responsible for all civil works including, substation foundations, trench and ducting systems, traffic and civil waste management.
Work is scheduled to start on site in June of this year and is due for completion in June 2011. The day-to-day operations will be managed by project manager, Julian Dorgan.
