Power Systems’ Traction unit has recently been awarded a contract by the Costain/Laing O’Rourke joint venture for the new London Underground transformer room at Farringdon station.

Power Systems’ Traction unit has started the design of a new transformer room for the Costain/Laing O’Rourke Joint Venture (CoLor) at Farringdon station. Works comprise the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the new transformer room onto the London Underground Power Supply network.

When completed Farringdon Station will offer interchange facilities for Crossrail, Thameslink and London Underground services.

The project includes cable routes through London Underground and Network Rail tunnels and interface with the client project team and EDF Energy Powerlink to deliver the project.

HV and LV switchboard will be manufactured at the Power Systems Tractions facilities in Huntly Road, Glasgow.

Project manager Mark Adkins will lead the contract with design and manufacturing support from Huntly Road. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2011.
