Balfour Beatty Engineering Services has recently been awarded a £1.8m mechanical and electrical services contract by Balfour Beatty Construction for a new cancer treatment centre under the ProCure21 scheme.
The new radiotherapy centre at Salford Royal Hospital will be the second completed development for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust as part of its network of centres across the Greater Manchester area and beyond. It is ‘The Christie’ vision to bring its services closer to patients' homes.
The treatment centre will be built within the grounds of the existing hospital and will have two radiotherapy machines, one of which will have the ability to deliver a highly specialised treatment for conditions such as neurological tumours.
BBES has already completed the enabling works to allow the development to progress and is currently working with both The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and their specialist equipment suppliers to complete the design.
The design aligns with our modular philosophy, including service modules, modular wiring and a roof mounted packaged plant room. Both Trusts being keen to embrace a visible environmental solution have incorporated a green roof.
BBES will start on site in July 2010 and the contract is due for completion in May 2011. Hulley and Kirkwood is the consultant on the project.
