The Newcastle office has been awarded a £6.8m contract by Sir Robert McAlpine to provide full mechanical and electrical services for three schools in Newcastle. The schools are part of the second wave of Newcastle City Council’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The work will take place over a 12-month period on the refurbishment and extension of Gosforth High School where a combined heating power unit will be installed. This environmentally-friendly system will take excess heat from the building to generate electricity.

Gosforth Junior High School and St Mary’s Roman Catholic Comprehensive School will get brand new buildings which will incorporate rainwater harvesting systems and biomass boilers.  Modular Systems + units will be incorporated for electrical containment and pipe work.

Project manager Dave Graham said: “We have lots of experience of schools in the area having already worked with Sir Robert McAlpine on Gateshead Schools BSF and with Balfour Beatty Construction on Sunderland Schools BSF.”
