Balfour Beatty Engineering Services has been working on the BNHJV for over six years now and earlier this week saw the team successfully handover phase 1 to clients Consort and University Hospitals Birmingham Trust on time. The hospital will open its doors to patients in June 2010.

Phase 1 is approximately is two thirds of the new Acute Hospital and includes the A&E dept, a 100-bed critical care unit, theatres, imaging suites, burns department, laboratories and wards together with the associated infrastructure. This handover also included all the M&E systems and the majority of plant which will service the hospital. The teams were also able to handover additional areas for the client, providing the concourse and main entrance along with the mortuary.

Construction work started in January 2006 and has seen the joint venture partners, Balfour Beatty Construction and Balfour Beatty Engineering Services, remaining on or ahead of programme throughout. The remaining programme sees the outstanding phases being ready for handover ahead of programme during the later part of this year.
