Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has recently completed work at the TEN Centre, Harrop Fold School, in time for the centre to be opened in September 2010.
The TEN Centre, which stands for Transforming Educational Needs, was undertaken for the client Salford City Council, under a £550,000 electrical and mechanical design & build contract. Following on from our involvement in the Harrop Fold and Buille Hill projects this was repeat business with principle contractor Morgan Sindall, formerly Morgan Ashurst.
Matthew Towner and Steve Wilkinson managed the project.
The TEN Centre was an internal fit out of an area of Harrop Fold School, which had been left in a shelled condition following the school’s construction in 2008. The facility will be used as an IT test bed for Salford City Council, to test out and trial new IT hardware and software before it is rolled out within schools.
The mechanical and electrical services installed within the facility include a stand-alone data server and network with an emphasis on audiovisual operational systems, a lighting control system, an extension to the existing fire protection systems and a comfort cooling installation. Due to the nature of the facility an extensive security, door access and CCTV installation has been installed.
The building has been fitted out to a very high standard, with the project gaining the Morgan Sindall ‘Perfect Delivery’ accreditation and an Energy Performance Rating B.
Project manager Matthew Towner added, “the emphasis on quality was achieved through working closely with Morgan Sindall site staff and the hard work and determination of the operational staff from the BBES supply chain and our own site personnel’.
