Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has been awarded a contract to provide a variety of services as an extension to the Knowsley Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. Work is already under way at three primary schools, a pupil referral unit and a sports centre with a combined project value of around £11m.
Working with Balfour Beatty Construction, the scheme includes design, supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services such as building management systems, sprinkler, fire, security and CCTV systems.
Around a hundred employed and subcontracted staff will work on the projects at any given time, under the guidance of senior project manager Alan Wilkinson and his team.
The works are taking place on existing school sites and close liaison with each school is necessary to ensure works don’t disrupt the children’s learning.
Biomass boilers and pre-manufactured pipe work, modular wiring and plug and play distribution systems are aiding the environmental efficiency of the projects which are set for completion in 2012.
BBES has been working with Balfour Beatty Construction since January 2008 on the £162m Knowsley BSF project, which includes the construction of seven state-of-the-art learning centres.
