Industry magazine Construction News has given the King’s Cross Northern Ticket Hall one of its top awards.

At a glittering ceremony held at the Park Plaza Hotel in London’s Westminster Bridge in June, newscaster Huw Edwards announced the Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering/Balfour Beatty Engineering Services joint venture the winner of this year’s Quality Award in the ‘Project Over £50m’category.

Open to companies who deserve recognition for the high standard of work, adherence to budget and client satisfaction in a healthy and safe working environment, the BBES King’s Cross team was represented by project manager Steve Waugh who said: “This is the fourth major prize for the project this year, having been given an ICE London Award in May, a RoSPA Gold Award for two years running, and being ‘highly commended’ by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation for our Zero Harm campaign. The whole team is delighted that all our hard work is paying off. We were up against stiff competition with some very prestigious projects entering the category, so everyone in the team should be really proud of themselves.”

BBES has provided £28m of mechanical and electrical work at King’s Cross and despite nearly three hundred people working on the site at the height of the works and a tight programme, the project has had a remarkable safety record. The new facilities have prepared the world-famous underground station for an increase in passenger numbers and for the additional capacity needed for the 2012 Olympics.
