Modular Systems + recently delivered the most complex packaged plant room to date for the new Christie Radiotherapy Treatment Centre site in Salford.

In July, Modular Systems + delivered the most challenging packaged plant room to date for the new radiotherapy centre at Salford Royal Hospital.

The plant room was manufactured with nine sections, comprising a total weight of over 62 tonnes and is 20m square. The design incorporated two levels to meet the needs of the construction design and was delivered on time for the end of July. The final assembly on site of the nine sections was achieved in a week.

The assembly of the plant room at West Bromwich over six weeks was an excellent example of team work between the site engineers, Modular Systems + and the supply chain.

Installing plant rooms traditionally is a notoriously challenging area and the Christie Radiotherapy Treatment Centre is an excellent example of what can be achieved with the off-site manufacturing approach.

Stephen Lea is overseeing the project which is due for completion in May 2011.
