Practical completion for the main house block at Parc Prison was achieved on 24 September 2010.

HMP & YOI Parc is a category B local prison housing approximately 1,200 male adults (convicted only), young offenders (convicted and remand) and young people (convicted and remand).

From 1 November 2010, G4S will start to move prisoners into the new 326 cell 10,500sq m house block.

Due to approximately a third of the cells having double occupation the prison population will increase to a number in excess of 1,600, making HMP & YOI Parc one of the largest privately run prison facilities in Britain.

Phil Vaulters, Balfour Beatty Engineering Services’ (BBES) contracts manager said: “We have been able to handover the project virtually defect free which is a fantastic achievement.”

Peter Spearing, operations director for Building Services South added “The new house block looks fantastic and the work is to the highest standard and the team can be rightly proud of what they have achieved.”

The project team is now looking forward to completing the next section of the development which comprises the visits and industries building along with a new first night induction unit.

Congratulations to all involved.
