Balfour Beatty Engineering Services has been awarded a £2.9m contract to design, supply and install mechanical, electrical and plumbing services to Warrington Borough Council’s new Orford Park Community Leisure Hub.
The new building will combine health services and community facilities, enabling groups and individuals to access a range of activities. The sporting and leisure facilities, including a swimming pool, will also provide physical activity programmes to benefit the local and wider community of Warrington.
The hub building will incorporate an eight-lane swimming pool, teaching pool, wet and dry changing facilities, fitness suite, function room, dance and multiuse studios, squash courts, four badminton court sports hall, library, community daycare facilities, crèche, 14-19 vocational training facilities and a cafe. The hub building will also incorporate a 2,500 m² medical centre.
External works comprise forming new grassed pitches, a new artificial pitch, skateboard and BMX park, cycle and walking trails, refurbishment of bowling greens, bowls pavilion, and extensive remodelling of park landscaping.
BBES is working with client Galliford Try Construction on this eight month project, which is due to be completed in the autumn of 2011.
Sustainable solutions which will be incorporated within the project include Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plant, high efficiency boilers and heat reclaim on the AHU’s /VRF systems.
The team intends to engage with the local community in conjunction with Galliford Try. Initial ideas are work experience from local schools, local employment opportunities and charity days.
It is intended that over 60% of the project will be modularised utilising BBES’ Modular Systems + facility.
Andrew Wightman will oversee the project which will be managed on a day-to-day basis by Mike Worrall, and the BBES team from the Warrington office.
