Building Services South has secured four contracts with a total value of £18.3m as part of the Southwark Schools for the Future project phase 2.
Working as part of a combined joint venture with Balfour Beatty Construction, Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has been awarded four contracts; St Thomas the Apostle College, Spa School, Sacred Heart School and “new School Aylesbury”. The projects comprise the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical, electrical and fire protection solutions for both new build and refurbished existing retained estate.
This is the largest school renewal programme for ultimate client Southwark Council since Victorian times.
Pamela Fennell, programme director for 4 Futures, Southwark's local education partnership, said: "We are very pleased that our work over the past year on behalf of Southwark Schools and the wider Southwark community will not go to waste. Our team of private sector, council and school colleagues will continue working together to deliver the fantastic buildings that Southwark students and staff deserve."
More than 12 schools in the borough are set to be built, rebuilt or refurbished and BBES is striving hard to capture all of this work.
Mike Jennings and his team are overseeing the education projects for BBES and Buro Happold and Wallace Whittle are the services design consultants.
