Building Services South has been awarded a £5.9m contract for a new academy in Shoreham-by-Sea.
Working as part of a combined joint venture with Balfour Beatty Construction, this contract comprises the design, supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for a new state-of-the-art academy. Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) will start on the 18-month project in the Spring of 2011.
The project, for ultimate client West Sussex County Council, involves the provision of a new school complete with theatres, drama and dance studios, a sports hall with spectator seating for 450 and a floodlit all-weather pitch.
A turf cutting ceremony recently took place and attendees included Balfour Beatty site personnel, students and employees from the school and representatives from West Sussex County Council. Several time capsules were buried with the ceremonial spade, speeches were made and a prayer was said by the priest of Horsham.
Students will continue to study in their existing buildings until Easter 2012 and will start using the new facilities in the summer term of 2012.
Tim Giles is overseeing the contract for BBES which is due for completion in the autumn of 2012. The consultant on the project is Gifford & Partners.
