Building Services North has secured two contracts with a total value of £9.3m as part of the Blackburn with Darwen and Bolton Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project, which is a joint venture with partners Balfour Beatty Construction.
Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has been awarded the two education projects in Blackburn by the Local Education Partnership (LEP), namely New East Blackburn School (pictured) with a value of £4.3m and Witton Park School with a value of £5m.
The contracts both comprise the design, supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for the new build schools.
Both schools will be innovative buildings which will encourage and help pupils to reach their full potential in the 21st century. Flexibility will be key in the design of the buildings with regard to internal spaces and partitions. Learning environments will allow for a variety of group combinations, big and small and will incorporate new technologies and methods in teaching. Accessibility will also be of paramount importance ensuring the requirements of students with special needs are continually met. The schools will also be used for learning and recreational purposes by the local community.
WYG Group and Hoare Lea are the consultants.
