Following on from the achievement of completion of the track switch and relocation of the live railway from the west side of bridge 410 to the east side, we have now successfully opened the new platforms No.1 and No.2 to the public.
These works included the installation of complete tubular ducting and multi duct systems running north to south below platform No.1, with connections at both ends to the existing CMS routes and below track/platform drainage.
A full lighting, power and fire alarm system has also been installed on the new platforms, overbridge and temporary Eastern Public walkway. The design of these installations had to take cognisance of future works to enclose the bridge platforms within future wall glazing and roof cladding systems.
It is a tribute to the commitment of the Blackfriars team who worked day and night throughout the Christmas and New Year festive period in some of the worst weather in years to successfully meet the challenges experienced and complete the deadlines of train run through and station reopening to the public.
