Building Services North is currently involved with Sirius and Ganton Academy and Kelvin Hall, as part of the overall £86m Hull National Academies Framework.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) is providing £8.4m of mechanical and electrical services for the new Sirius and Ganton Academy project which includes a special educational needs (SEN) school and £4.2m of mechanical and electrical services for the new Kelvin Hall School both for client Balfour Beatty Construction.

At the Sirius and Ganton Academy (pictured) works are progressing well on site and are on programme. Ceiling installations were carried out in February and the main plant room works are well progressed with the installation of the prefabricated pipe work modules, pump skids and 1.6MW biomass boiler complete. Commissioning plans have now been produced with the electrical dead testing underway and pipe work flushing scheduled for March.

Kelvin Hall consists of the construction of a new build school on three levels with the existing sports hall being incorporated into the new build. The new William Gee Sports Pavilion is also being built on a remote sports field site.  BBES has carried out enabling works to date and started the installation of services to the main building during February 2011.

Many sustainable initiatives have been adopted on the state-of-the-art educational facilities including the use of local contractors and the employment of local apprentices, some of which have been unemployed for a long period of time. A wildlife partnership is also being introduced between the schools and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

Sirius and Ganton Academy is due for completion in August 2011 and Kelvin Hall is due to finish in 2012. Gifford is the engineering consultant for both projects.
