Building Services South has been awarded a £4m mechanical and electrical contract for Cardinal Pole Catholic School in London, which is part of the Hackney BSF programme.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services is providing the design, supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for client Mansell.

Cardinal Pole Catholic School is currently split across two sites and the buildings are tired, have limited space, with one of the sites being a former hospital which presents further problems in delivering a modern curriculum.

The new three-storey 9,600m2 school is being constructed at Morning Lane in Hackney and will accommodate 1,500 pupils and raise education standards through a well designed, multi-purpose campus containing state-of-the-art learning environments. The project is aiming to achieve a “Very Good” BREEAM rating.

Mike Jennings, operations director for education said: "I am delighted with the award of Cardinal Pole from Mansell, which is in keeping with the London and South East regional strategy of repeat business."

Len Dickens is overseeing the contract for BBES which is due to start on-site in May 2011.
