An innovation day was held at the Modular Systems + factory in Wednesbury at the beginning of June at which members of the supply chain, BBES engineers from across the company, and the Modular Systems + team gathered together to share their knowledge, ideas and discuss the latest products and industry innovations.
The second of four planned sessions, the innovation days form part of the division’s sustainability plan for Innovation and aims to provide a forum for customers and suppliers to work together to find solutions to the latest technical needs.
The emphasis on this event was on mechanical pipe work systems, distributor BSS led the day with several other suppliers also attending. A supplier exhibition was held at Modular Systems + Innovation Centre giving the group an opportunity to see new products and to talk freely with each other.
Tours of the Modular Systems+ process gave a closer look at the work being done at the facility and six suppliers gave technical presentations which were followed by open engineering discussions.
Bob Francis of Modular Systems + said the day was exhilarating with a positive atmosphere: “These days are of huge benefit to the whole company. The term ‘innovation’ doesn’t just refer to the new products or processes we use. Innovation is also demonstrated at events like this where we work very closely as a team with suppliers to create bespoke engineering solutions that give us the edge over our competitors and allow us to lead our industry into the future.
For example, the team discussed on the day potentially pre-setting valves in modules to save on commissioning time with our supplier - a huge bonus for everyone involved in our projects. The events also allow Modular Systems + to engage with engineers and suppliers by showing them just what we are capable of.”
An electrical innovation day was held at the factory in May and an energy day is planned later in the year.
