BBES’ Solihull office has secured two contracts with a combined value of £14.3m as part of the Hertfordshire BSF sample schemes.
The Building Services South contracts are both joint ventures. The £5.6m Nobel sample scheme in Stevenage is with Mansell Construction and the £8.7m Marriotts Lonsdale sample scheme, also situated in Stevenage, is with Balfour Beatty Construction.
Nobel involves the supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for the remodeling and extension of the existing secondary school and includes the complete new building services installation.
The project is aiming to achieve a BREEAM “Very Good” rating. Once complete the four-storey school will educate 1,600 pupils. Construction has been programmed in seven phases to avoid interruption to the operational school as far as possible.
Marriotts Lonsdale comprises the supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for a new co-located secondary school and all age SEN school with overnight accommodation and will include a complete new building services installation. Marriotts School is a specialist sports and science facility serving 1,600 students with a large selection of community group stakeholders who will also benefit from these new facilities. Lonsdale School is an all age school for pupils with physical and neurological impairments (PNI), many of whom have additional sensory or medical needs. The two schools will benefit from sharing state-of-the art facilities and resources. This project is also aiming to secure a BREEAM “Very Good” rating and once complete should exceed current energy targets.
Work starts on both projects with enabling activities in July 2011.
