Building Services South has been awarded a £3.8M mechanical and electrical services contract for the new build Centre for Molecular Pathology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Surrey.

The new three-storey Centre for Molecular Pathology (CMP) at the Royal Marsden hospital in Sutton will focus on molecular diagnostics, bringing leading scientists together under one roof, so that research discoveries can quickly be converted into better ways to diagnose and treat cancer in individuals.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) will carry out the supply and installation of mechanical, electrical and public health services, comprising LV & HV switchgear, lighting, power, CCTV, door access, security, fire alarms, LTHW, chilled, domestic and laboratory water, ventilation, variable air volume system, lab gases, BMS and cold rooms.

Innovation that will be used on this project will include the latest metering lighting and water control. The use of an absorption chiller and photovoltaic cells is currently being explored. Modular Systems + will provide risers, multi service 3D modules, plant skids and modular wiring.

Works will start on site in July, and will be completed in late summer 2012. The project is being carried out for Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, with client Osborne. CPW Birmingham is the M&E consultant.

The contract will be project managed by Pierre Culff from the London and South East Region supported by Luke Stacey and the site team, reporting through operations manager Peter Roberts.
