Building Services North has been awarded the £4.6m M&E contract for three campus blocks at the University of Leeds.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) is working with the University of Leeds to carry out back log maintenance to the Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering blocks at its campus in Leeds. The University is currently undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment programme, which includes bringing the engineering buildings to present day standards with the replacement of all major plant and equipment.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing services comprising surveying / indentifying existing services, strip out and replacement of mechanical and electrical services including ductwork, air conditioning, air handling units, domestic water services, heating services, plumbing services, mechanical plant, BMS system, insulation, installation of containment systems, LV switchgear, motor control panels, LV cabling installation, fibre optic cabling, lighting and small power including emergency lighting, automatic lighting control, fire alarms and ancillary systems, CCTV system, data system and access system.

Supporting sustainability, the project will aim to reduce energy consumption in the building via the installation of absence and presence lighting controls.

Innovation adopted on this project includes the installation of Yorkshire Xpress and Primo fit pipework systems to reduce hot working.

M&E consultancy services will be provided by BBES’ internal design team on this project. Works started on site in May and will be completed by the end of summer 2013. Russell Horner is the operations manager for the project, supported by project manager Johnpaul Bolton, who with the site team will manage this project on behalf of BBES.
