Having been awarded ten consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards, the Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) team at Sellafield has earned the prestigious RoSPA Presidents Award, the first for BBES.

BBES is delivering mechanical and electrical (M&E) services at Sellafield for a range of companies, including Sellafield Limited (SL) as their Tier 2 contractor. New build projects delivered over the last ten years include the Residue Export Facility (REF), Sellafield Product Residue Store (SPRS), MASFE Evaporator, Sellafield Drypac (SDP), 11kV substations 72, 73 and 74, Sludge Packaging Plant (SPP1), Sellafield Active Ventilation (SAV) and the Fellside Boiler Park.

In parallel to the new build nuclear works, BBES has provided the services necessary for the decommissioning of buildings throughout the Sellafield estate, most recently an electrical overlay system to support the decommissioning of the Calderhall Magnox power station.

BBES’ continuous commitment towards Zero Harm has resulted in 1.5 million man hours of work delivered with zero Lost Time Accidents over the last eight years at Sellafield.

Ged Toman, Sellafield Limited head of management, control and oversight of contractors and leaseholders department said: “This prestigious award demonstrates the commitment of BBES to safety performance and diligence in achieving 1.5 million man hours without a Lost Time Accident. This is echoed in the support given by BBES to Sellafield Limited in their drive for Zero Accidents.”

Sam Bailey, Sellafield Limited management control and oversight of contractors and leaseholders safety team added: “This award has been given in recognition of an excellent safety performance over a number of years from all levels of the organisation. Please pass on my congratulations to the entire BBES workforce.”

This is the latest in a series of safety awards that have been presented to the team at Sellafield. The award will be collected in September at RoSPA’s annual awards ceremony. Congratulations to the team.
