Blackfriars Green Apple Award

Congratulations to the Blackfriars project who has been awarded a Silver Award in the Green Apple Scheme. The scheme recognises environmental best practice and is one of the longest and established environmental award schemes in the UK.

The awards ceremony took place at the University of Westminster, hosted by inventor Trevor Baylis OBE (of wind-up radio fame). The trophy awarded - a specially decorated plasterer’s float - will go on display in Puddle Dock reception.

The award recognises the Blackfriars project’s use of river barges to transport materials and remove waste from site, donations to local charities, preservation of heritage features, waste and recycling initiatives, and actions taken to encourage our people to develop a ‘sustainability consciousness’.

The Blackfriars environment team, who represented the project at the presentation, are pictured with Trevor Baylis. From left to right they are, Simon Taylor, Ian Buchanan, Trevor Baylis, Diana Brender and Ketan Patel.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services is working on £60m of mechanical and electrical improvements to the stations and railway bridge for Network Rail in a joint venture with Balfour Beatty Major Civil Engineering. Congratulations and well done to the project team on this achievement.
