Building Services North has been awarded the £2.4m M&E contract for the Energy Technology Building at the University of Nottingham.

In 2011 the University of Nottingham will move to a landmark building on Jubilee Campus, a centre of excellence for energy technologies and solutions.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) is working with Clegg Construction Limited to deliver a state-of-the-art best practice example of zero carbon practice. The new Energy Technology Building will minimise the need for heating, cooling, lighting and ventilation, and use renewable and ambient sources. Zero carbon will be a design requirement for new public buildings from 2018 and the Energy Technology Building will be a shining example in the UK, with a BREEAM rating of Outstanding.

BBES will design, supply and install services including transformers, propane chiller, biofuel CHP, research gases and electric car charging points.

Mechanical and electrical services will be managed by James Mason and the team from Leeds.

Works start on site during October 2011 and will be completed by spring 2012. Aecom is providing M&E consultancy on the project.

The investment is being jointly funded by the University of Nottingham and the European Union, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme.
