Building Services South has completed on time and within budget the £8.5m Crown Woods College project, a Greenwich Phase 1 Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme, in joint venture with Balfour Beatty Construction.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) successfully completed the project for ultimate client London Borough of Greenwich. The contract involved the design, supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for the 17,500m2 new build school.

Crown Woods College opened to the teachers and pupils on the programmed date of 26 April 2011.

Sustainable initiatives adopted on this project included:

  • The installation of double glazed window units including solar glazing on south facing elevations.
  • The installation of a biomass boiler as the lead boiler, maximising low carbon benefits from operating the plant in lieu of gas boilers.
