BBES’ Newcastle office has secured a £2.5m contract from GB Building Solutions for a new police station in Cardale Park, Harrogate.
The Building Services North contract involves the design, supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for ultimate client North Yorkshire Police Authority.
The North Yorkshire force is replacing the town's 1930s station on North Park Road with a new state-of-the-art facility on Beckwith Knowle. The three-storey police station will provide a base for around 200 officers and staff as well as specialist units.
Environmental aspects of the contract include the installation of 180 ‘solar panels’ on the roof to generate electricity and the use of air source heat pumps in lieu of the traditional gas-fired boiler system. The new station will also benefit from a comprehensive integrated CCTV, security, access control and cell call monitoring systems as well as an uninterruptible power supply and standby generation.
BBES’ operations are now on-site with a completion date of March 2012. The design is being delivered in-house from the Newcastle office.
