London and the South East has been awarded Islington Phase 2 - The Pru within the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) framework, valued at £1.5M.
The Pru, a 2936m2 pupil referral unit, has been awarded by Transform Islington Limited on behalf of London Borough of Islington through Phase 2 of the Islington BSF.
Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) will supply and install mechanical, electrical and plumbing services comprising heating, air conditioning, heat recovery ventilation, domestic services, rainwater recovery, sprinklers, small power, data, security, BMS and fire alarm.
PRU will use a "system build" approach, which means that it is a standardised modular construction with the majority of the building construction and services prefabricated off-site.
The majority of the mechanical and electrical installations will be modularised at Modular Systems + therefore reducing packaging on site, construction time and reducing working at height giving safety benefits.
Sustainability aspects on this project include heat recovery multi-service raft installations pre-heating supply air to each space from the extract air. The school will also benefit from a rainwater harvesting system which will provide water for flushing toilets.
John Geddes will manage BBES’ operations on this project. Works started in June 2011 and will be completed during summer 2012. Wallace Whittle will provide M&E consultancy on this project.
