Bristol office has been awarded the £2.7m mechanical and electrical contract to revamp Ashdown Technical College in Poole, Dorset.
Works to modernise Ashdown Technical College, comprise a new build, remodel, refurbishment and refresh for a facility of 1030 students and staff.
Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) will carry out the design, supply and installation of M&E services working in joint venture with Balfour Beatty Construction, on behalf of Poole Borough Council. Aecom are providing M&E consultancy services to the project.
The first year of the £13.5 million project will see a new 2-storey extension built near the schools current entrance. In the second year, the existing school building will undergo a large refurbishment programme to update and improve the facilities.
Some students will be learning in the new building from September 2012 while the existing school buildings are updated. The whole project will be completed by June 2013 allowing all pupils at the school to benefit from the chance to learn in an exciting new environment.
The M&E services scope worth approximately £2.7M includes above ground drainage and sanitary ware, heating, ventilation, hot and cold water, local DX and VRV air conditioning, lighting, lighting control, small power, data, BMS, fire detection and alarms, access control and security.
Sustainability aspects on this project include energy monitoring, passive ventilation, photovoltaic panels, water leak detection, and lighting control. Innovations that will be carried out on this project include “Lokring” a mechanical cold jointing system, eliminating the need for traditional brazed joints on DX and VRV cooling systems.
Off-site manufactured multi-service modules, modular electrical systems and skid mounted plant will also be used on this project, benefiting the project timescale and removing safety risks from site.
Christopher Ludlow will project manage the works, supported by Ian Marshall and Tom Peregreen and the team from the Bristol office.
