Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES), Projects division has achieved a further client PBI milestone ahead of schedule by seamlessly delivering the pre-commissioned plant services modules to site.
BBES Projects division West region’s scope for the SPP1 project is the provision of design, supply and installation services for the complete EC&I and HVAC systems, including the major off-site modularisation of plant services systems.
The team has developed the design from concept through to detailed design, inclusive of the management of subcontract seismic structural design.
The modules which are 24.4m long 3.5m wide and 3.5m high house all the plant services and utilities.
Contracts manager, Carl McNicholas says: “Again it has been a tremendous effort by all involved to achieve delivery and installation of the modules ahead of schedule, more so under the stringent safety requirements of the site. We have extremely tight constraints to work with due to the available footprint at site, as such it was important that we did take learning from the trial assembly undertaken in March of this year.
“During the construction phase we continually inspected and signed off the installation and fit-out, our site based QA team progressively signed off each module with the assistance of the SPP1 commissioning team and the end users Inspection and Certification Group. Buy in from all parties ensures we got it right first time, further to early delivery we have also fully commissioned the 11kV / 400V switchboards one week ahead of schedule with the assistance from the clients Plant Services Utilities department and Powell S&I.”
The remaining plant installation works are programmed to run until May of next year.
