Balfour Beatty Engineering Services has installed an electric car charger, with two dedicated parking bays for electric cars at its head office in Hillington.
The company is committed to promoting sustainable driving and has been working with BB Plant and Fleet to extend the range of electric car options available to Balfour Beatty employees and their accessibility.
Leading by example legal director, and ELT sponsor for the sustainability leadership group, Christopher Morgan has recently taken ownership of a Nissan Leaf electric car.
The Nissan Leaf (Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable and Family) runs to100 miles per charge, a quick charge of 30mins gives an 80% charge, and power is put back into the battery when you brake.
Head office, office services also hope to take delivery of a Renault Kangoo electric van early in the New Year with the existing Toyota Prius becoming the office pool car.
BB Plant and Fleet has added further electric and hybrid cars to their range, including the Toyota Prius, and is promoting BBES as their recommended supplier for installing electric car chargers. Installations will be carried out by the key account team led by Andy Condie.
Christopher adds: “The electric car has many benefits, not least the ability to self-defrost or cool down which can be activated from your blackberry or pc.”
In early 2012 it is hoped that further BBES branded electric car charging points will be installed at the BBES Newcastle office, and at further BBES sites where it may be suitable.
