Building Services North, Scotland region has been awarded a £2.7m mechanical and electrical services contract for a new community sports centre in Linwood, south west of Glasgow.

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) will supply and install mechanical and electrical services for client BAM Construction, under the new framework for Renfrewshire Council. The contract is due to start on site in January 2012 with a completion date of December 2012.

The new facilities will include a 25m six-lane competition swimming pool, teaching pool and fun pool with flumes and river rapids, along with an eight-court sports hall, fitness suite, squash courts, dance studios, refurbished synthetic 11-a-side pitch and a new five-a-side pitch.

The new community hub will also contain a new adult day care facility in addition to a café and facilities for use by community groups.

M&E services comprise LV switchgear and distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, lighting controls, small power, fire alarms, security, data, PA/VA, ventilation systems, BMS system, heating and domestic water services.

Sustainability is incorporated into the building services installation through the use of a CHP unit, rainwater harvesting, energy monitoring, lighting controls and water leak detection.

From an innovation point of view the BBES site team is exploring opportunities through regular innovation workshops.

Renfrewshire Council is our ultimate client for this project, with consultancy services provided by Wallace Whittle.
