The new prison at Featherstone near Wolverhampton consists of three 480-place blocks and associated prison facilities.

The emphasis of the new facility is firmly on the rehabilitation of offenders with specialist systems being installed for the support buildings, where offenders can learn new skills and trades to help them integrate with society at the end of their sentence.

A fully modularised energy centre built off site, will provide eco-friendly systems including a biomass boiler, and a combined heat and power unit which will allow the prison to recycle the energy it creates and sell the excess back to the national grid.

A Bioplex facility is included in the scheme which recycles waste to produce bio gas to heat the Bioplex building.

BBES’ works comprise mechanical and electrical services to new build prison, including an advanced security scheme which incorporates the latest in highly sensitive tamper-proof systems, both at the perimeter of the site and within the prison buildings. An energy centre will provide eco-friendly systems including a biomass boiler, and a combined heat and power unit which will allow the prison to recycle the energy it creates.
