This exceptional project won both the Major M&E Project of the Year and the Office Building of the Year titles in the Building Services Awards of 2004. As well as including offices, interactive innovation and media centres, a training college, sports and recreation area and an observations trial site, the building houses supercomputers in two IT halls.
The Met Office specified that the new headquarters be built to a low energy design, achieving BREEAM Excellent rating. Amongst measures taken to achieve this were Combined Heat and Power plant, recycled grey water and a TermoDeck displacement ventilation system.
