Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has recently been awarded a £6.25m combined mechanical and electrical services contract for this prestigious life centre scheme for ultimate client Plymouth City Council.

BBES has been appointed by Cowlin Construction (the local delivery arm of Balfour Beatty Construction Scottish & Southern) for the mechanical, electrical and public health services.

The new facilities will be built in Central Park, which is the traditional heart of the city’s recreational and sporting life.  The new centre will see Plymouth’s biggest ever investment in leisure facilities and is designed to meet the city’s sporting needs well into the 21st century.

The unique centre will offer affordable sessions aimed at increasing participation in sports and improving the overall health and fitness of the local community.  The inspirational nature of the £46.5m project reflects Plymouth’s vision to become one of Europe’s most vibrant waterfront cities.  All-weather climbing facilities, leisure and competition pools, a multi-use sports hall and health spa will all be provided with ecologically-sound mechanical and electrical services provided by BBES.

The project will be led by Bernard Ashford from Bristol office, he said: “We will be installing all the mechanical, electrical and plumbing services within the building using many green solutions including biomass boilers and combined heating and power generators along with many intelligent systems to provide an efficient and cost effective solution.”
